Fabulous Find from the Library

Every so often I post a list of some of my favorite books related to one of our current class themes.  Here are some of my favorite books with a Rainy Day theme for our preschool Imagine That! class.

Move Over, Rover! by Karen Beaumont

I only recently discovered this author and must say I am quickly becoming a devoted fan.  There’s another book by her I plan to bring to Our Time in a couple of weeks called Who Ate All the Cookie Dough? This book, Move Over, Rover!, tells the most adorable story of animals friends who try to seek shelter from the rain in a doghouse together.  I love books with various animal friends, but also found the rhythm and repetition in the text charming.

Storm is Coming by Heather Tekavec

When the farmer comes along and announces to the barnyard that “Storm is coming!” confusion ensues as the animals try to figure out who this Storm person might be.  This silly story helps make storms less scary for children as the animals declare that the dark and wind will surely help hide the animals from “Storm.”  And as I mentioned earlier, I always love stories full of animals of any kind.  Plus, the illustrations of these barnyard critters adds to the lighthearted spirit of the tale.

Puddles by Jonathan London

And of course, since we’ve been pretending to splash in mud puddles in class, I thought I’d add the fun of a book all about splashing in rain puddles, which has fun words for vocal play (Splash, Splash, Splash and Drip, Drip, Drip) reminiscent of some of the rain sounds we are making in class.
