Animal Faces

Whether you were riding on the  Zoo Train! , moving up and down on the Carousel in Confetti Days, or marching in Henry’s Parade there were lots of animals to see.  So, for a special craft this week, I thought you might enjoy making Animal Faces.

Materials:

  • Paper Plates
  • Tape
  • Glue or Glue Sticks
  • Hole Punch
  • Yarn or Ribbon to hold mask on
  • Scissors (to be used by adult or with adult supervision)
  • Decorative Items:  stickers, ribbon, yarn, pom-poms, etc.

Directions:

Punch one hole on either side of your paper plate.  Choose an animal to create.  Let your child lead as you decide what materials to use and how to place them in order to create an animal face.  Ask leading questions like “What could we use for the eyes?”  “Does our animal need hair?”  “Where should the nose go?”  “What color should our animal be?’  Decorate as you wish.  Cut a piece of yarn or ribbon to tie through your holes and create a mask.

Have fun moving your animal around the room to your favorite Zoo song or as an animal on the Confetti Days carousel!
