They’re ready for the big time.

From the moment you became a parent, you wanted the best for your child. In class, we engage your child in music and movement activities that also promote language, social and emotional skills, early math and early literacy, physical coordination, creativity, and more. Plus, your child will learn basic music vocabulary and notation—all setting the stage for future school success and formal music lessons.  Parents join the fun for the first 10-15 minutes of class.

What you’ll experience in class:

Pretend Play. Pretend play activities are integrated with music, vocal development, storytelling, listening, movement and literacy aspects of each class. When based upon a child’s real life experiences, pretend play helps develop language, sensory, motor and cognitive skills.

Musical Variety & Listening. Activities include exposure to composers such as Mozart and Beethoven as well as a mixture of musical genres and styles.  You’ll hear everything from jazz and classical standards to music from around the world.  Listening time includes a focus on traditional orchestral instruments as well as instruments from other countries.  And musicianship skills are honed as your child explores ways to respond to the different musical genres with their varied colors and texture.

Singing. Each week, class provides a setting for your child to explore his many voices and to use a “singing voice.”  Singing helps with memory and recall, physical development, creativity and socialization in addition to helping build a musical ear as preparation for any private lessons you might later pursue.

Storytelling and Literacy. Each class is built on the development of a story, with an emphasis on building pre-literacy skills as we build phoenemic awareness and expose your child to rhyming, print in the environment, graphic notation, and opportunities for reading and writing both words and music.

Exposure to Music Literacy Concepts. Your child is now ready for a new step in his musical learning.  Move & Groove recognizes the readiness of your big kid for greater musical complexity and presents your child with rhythmic activities, graphic notation, more involved ensemble activities, and even an introduction to reading and writing basic rhythms and pitches to help your child develop true musicianship while maintaining a spirit of play.

Parent Involvement. We don’t want you to miss out on the fun!  So caregivers participate in the first 10-15 minutes of class.  That way you get to see a little glimpse into class.  Plus the Home Materials (including music, books, and more activities to share at home) ensures the learning continues at home with your child’s best teacher—you!
